A bright, fruity, and slightly spiced sangria perfect for romantic celebrations or festive gatherings. This easy recipe combines fresh citrus, berries, red wine, and a hint of cinnamon for a delicious and memorable drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) fruity red wine (Merlot or Grenache recommended)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) brandy
  • 1 large fresh orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium fresh lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries (optional)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water or club soda, added before serving
  • Ice cubes as needed

Instructions

  1. Wash all fresh fruit thoroughly. Thinly slice the orange and lemon, removing any seeds. Hull and halve the strawberries. Rinse and drain raspberries if using.
  2. Pour the entire bottle of red wine into a large pitcher.
  3. Add the brandy and orange liqueur to the wine and stir gently but thoroughly to combine.
  4. Add the sliced oranges, lemons, strawberries, raspberries, and cinnamon sticks to the pitcher. Stir gently to distribute evenly.
  5. Drizzle in the honey or agave syrup and stir until fully dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
  6. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Just before serving, add the sparkling water or club soda and stir gently.
  8. Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the sangria over, and garnish with a fresh strawberry or citrus twist if desired.

Notes

Choose a fruity, medium-bodied red wine you enjoy drinking. Avoid heavily oaked or tannic wines. Chill the sangria for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor. Add sparkling water and ice just before serving to maintain fizz. Adjust sweetness gradually to avoid over-sweetening. Variations include using white wine, different fruits, or making a low-alcohol version with grape juice.
