classic margarita recipe - featured image

A simple and refreshing classic margarita recipe featuring fresh lime juice, silver tequila, and triple sec, balanced with a salted rim for the perfect cocktail experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) silver or blanco tequila (e.g., Patrón)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 oz (30 ml) triple sec or Cointreau
  • ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup (optional)
  • Coarse salt for rimming the glass
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass by running a lime wedge around the rim to moisten it. Dip the rim into coarse salt on a small plate, twisting gently to coat evenly. Set aside.
  2. Cut 1-2 fresh limes in half and juice to extract 1 oz (30 ml) of lime juice. Strain to remove seeds and pulp if desired.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz (60 ml) silver tequila, 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice, 1 oz (30 ml) triple sec, and ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup if using.
  4. Add 4-5 large ice cubes to the shaker, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels cold and frosty.
  5. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass filled halfway with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and serve immediately.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor; avoid bottled lime juice. Use coarse salt flakes for the rim for better texture. Shake just enough to chill without over-diluting. Adjust sweetness with simple syrup to taste. For a low-sugar option, omit simple syrup. Salt rim can be skipped for a salt-free version.
