A quick and easy bagel bar featuring smoked salmon, herbed cream cheese, and fresh toppings, perfect for brunch gatherings or casual meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 bagels (plain, everything, or sesame), toasted
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill and chives
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced fresh smoked salmon
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced and soaked in cold water
  • 1 medium cucumber, thinly sliced or peeled into ribbons
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained
  • Handful of fresh dill and chives, finely chopped
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Optional extras: sliced avocado, radishes, arugula leaves, olive oil drizzle

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, soften 8 ounces of full-fat cream cheese at room temperature. Stir in 1 teaspoon lemon zest and 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill and chives until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Slice 6 bagels evenly in half using a serrated knife. Toast them lightly in a toaster or under the broiler until golden and crisp. Set aside on a serving platter.
  3. Prepare toppings: soak thinly sliced half a red onion in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain. Slice 1 medium cucumber into thin rounds or ribbons. Halve 1 cup cherry tomatoes. Drain 2 tablespoons capers. Chop fresh dill and chives finely.
  4. Arrange 8 ounces of thinly sliced smoked salmon on a chilled plate. Cut into smaller pieces if needed for easy assembling.
  5. Set up the bagel bar by placing toasted bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon, and all toppings in individual bowls or platters. Include lemon wedges and optional extras. Provide small spoons or spreaders for serving.
  6. Assemble by spreading herbed cream cheese on a toasted bagel half, adding smoked salmon, then piling on desired toppings. Finish with a squeeze of lemon.

Notes

Keep cream cheese at room temperature for easy spreading. Toast bagels just before serving to maintain crispness. Soak red onions in cold water to mellow sharpness. Keep smoked salmon chilled until serving. For dairy-free or gluten-free options, substitute cream cheese and bagels accordingly.
