Flaky crescent dough layered with savory roast beef, melted provolone cheese, and served with a warm au jus dipping sauce—perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (seamless sheet variety if possible)
  • Thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • Sliced provolone cheese
  • Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • Beef broth (or beef stock)
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Roll out one can of crescent dough and press it into the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. Layer the roast beef evenly over the dough, followed by a layer of provolone cheese.
  4. Roll out the second can of crescent dough and place it over the filling, pressing down gently to seal the edges.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, garlic powder, and dry onion soup mix. Brush the mixture generously over the top of the dough.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and flaky.
  7. While the squares are baking, prepare the au jus dipping sauce by heating beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of garlic powder in a small saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Allow the French Dip Squares to cool for 5 minutes before slicing into squares. Serve warm with the au jus dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

[‘Keep the crescent dough cold for easier handling.’, ‘Brush generously with seasoned butter for a golden crust.’, ‘Allow the squares to cool slightly before slicing for cleaner portions.’, ‘Adjust the au jus seasoning to your preference.’]
