A quick and easy breakfast recipe that combines the soft gooeyness of cinnamon rolls with the crisp edges of waffles, topped with a sweet vanilla glaze.

Ingredients

  • Pre-made cinnamon roll dough (store-bought refrigerated dough like Pillsbury or homemade)
  • Unsalted butter, melted (for brushing the waffle iron)
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Brown sugar
  • Powdered sugar (1 cup / 120 g for glaze)
  • Vanilla extract (½ teaspoon / 2.5 ml for glaze)
  • Milk (1-2 tablespoons / 15-30 ml for glaze; whole, 2%, or dairy-free alternatives like almond or oat milk)
  • Optional: chopped pecans or walnuts
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron for about 5 minutes until fully heated.
  2. Separate each cinnamon roll and gently press or roll it flat into a circle about ¼ inch (0.6 cm) thick.
  3. Brush the waffle iron with melted butter to prevent sticking and add flavor. Reapply before each waffle.
  4. Optionally, sprinkle a small pinch of cinnamon and brown sugar over the dough circle for extra cinnamon-sugar flavor.
  5. Place the flattened dough onto the waffle iron. Close the lid gently but firmly.
  6. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through, with a crispy exterior and tender inside.
  7. Remove the waffle carefully using a silicone spatula or tongs and place it on a wire rack to keep the bottom crisp.
  8. Repeat with remaining dough, buttering the iron each time.
  9. Make the vanilla glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth and pourable. Add milk gradually to reach desired consistency.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over warm waffles and serve.

Notes

Press dough gently to about ¼ inch thickness to avoid dry or undercooked waffles. Butter the waffle iron before each waffle to prevent sticking. Adjust cooking time based on your waffle iron. For gluten-free or vegan versions, use appropriate dough and milk substitutes. Reheat leftovers in a toaster oven or conventional oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to maintain crispiness.
