A quick and flavorful Korean-inspired dish featuring tender ground beef in a sweet and savory soy-based sauce, served over rice with fresh veggies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Cooked rice (white, brown, or cauliflower rice)
  • Green onions, sliced thinly for garnish
  • Optional veggies: steamed broccoli, shredded carrots, or snap peas

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, freshly grated ginger, and minced garlic. Stir until combined and set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked—about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce over the ground beef and stir well to coat. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Stir in red pepper flakes for a bit of heat (optional).
  5. Serve the beef mixture over freshly cooked rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for extra flavor.
  6. Add steamed veggies like broccoli or snap peas to complete the bowl if desired.

Notes

[‘Don’t overcook the beef to keep it tender.’, ‘Adjust the sweetness by reducing the brown sugar slightly.’, ‘Add veggies during the sauce step for a quick stir-fry effect.’, ‘Double the sauce if you prefer saucy bowls.’, ‘Cook the rice in advance or use leftover rice to save time.’]
