A rich and indulgent dessert featuring smoky maple syrup, toasted walnuts, and a hint of bourbon. Perfect for special occasions or cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 ½ cups walnuts, chopped coarsely
  • ¾ cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using a frozen pie crust, thaw according to package instructions.
  2. Spread chopped walnuts on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 7-10 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden. Set aside to cool.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together maple syrup, brown sugar, and melted butter until smooth and glossy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition until the filling thickens slightly and becomes creamy.
  5. Stir in bourbon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Adjust sweetness or booziness to taste.
  6. Place the thawed pie crust in a 9-inch tart pan and press it into the edges. Trim excess dough, leaving about ½ inch overhang, then fold under and crimp edges.
  7. Scatter toasted walnuts evenly over the bottom of the crust.
  8. Pour the maple-bourbon filling over the walnuts, ensuring they are well-covered but not overflowing.
  9. Carefully place the tart in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the filling has set and the crust is golden brown. The center should jiggle slightly but not be liquid.
  10. Let the tart cool completely before removing it from the pan. Slice and serve.

Notes

[‘Toast the walnuts to enhance their flavor.’, ‘Use a quality bourbon for a rich, smoky undertone.’, ‘Avoid overbaking to prevent cracks in the filling.’, ‘Cool the tart completely before slicing for clean cuts.’, ‘Blind bake the crust for 10 minutes to prevent a soggy bottom.’]
