Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (regular or low-sodium)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or any neutral oil like canola or avocado)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Optional: sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes while you prep the other ingredients.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, and water. Set aside.
  3. Heat the Wok: Place a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and let it get hot.
  4. Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the wok and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until browned. Remove the beef and set it aside.
  5. Cook the Broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the wok, followed by the broccoli florets. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender.
  6. Add Aromatics: Push the broccoli to one side of the wok. Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the empty space and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Combine Everything: Return the beef to the wok and pour in the sauce. Toss everything together for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli evenly.
  8. Serve: Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For best results, slice the beef thinly against the grain and use high heat during stir-frying. Customize the sauce to your taste by adjusting the sweetness or saltiness.
