Indulgent apple crisp bars with a buttery oat base, spiced apple filling, and crumb topping—perfect for fall desserts or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon (8g) cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour in melted butter and mix until crumbly. Reserve 1 cup of the mixture for topping and press the rest into the bottom of the dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, toss diced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch until well-coated. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the oat base.
  4. Sprinkle the reserved oat mixture over the apple filling, covering it evenly.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  6. Let the bars cool completely in the dish before slicing into squares.

Notes

Let the bars cool completely for easier slicing. Customize with nuts, caramel drizzle, or berries for added flavor.
